Best 'device' for 7 yo boy?

It's my DS1's birthday soon (7) and he wants 'a tablet.' On closer questioning what he really wants is something to play games on - he mentioned all the things he has seen his friends with that we don't have. Thid includes:
Tablets, iPod touch and also gaming devices such as wii and Xbox connect etc
Obviously he'll only get one of these, if he's lucky! But my question is, which one would be the most useful/ used based on your experience. We have 1 iPad and 1 very old laptop between us in the house at the moment. I have 2 younger sons, so whatever we buy will get a lot of use long term I guess? Thanks for any pointers....,

I would get an xbox tbh if he wants to play games. You can pick pre owned ones up for decent prices these days.

You can also hook it up to the tv and use it for apps like bbciplayer, netflix etc etc

but that's just me.. I couldn't imagine not having an xbox Grin

Ooh didn't think about potential uses for us - netflix you say! ?? Hmmmm, that sounds more appealing!!

My kids are 7 n 2yrs they use ipad to play, n watch t.v. But i try not to let them be on gadgets because its very addictive. I personally dnt want my kids to be on it too long. They glue them self on to it n dnt listen to u, or do things on time e.g eating breakfast, lunch dinner...
