Our 3 boys all share at the moment they are (7, 4 and 1) we are thginking of moving ds1 into a room on his own, but it wil mean giving up the 'spare' room and make it quite difficult for people to come and stay. Do other peoples kids share ? at what age do you think they should have a room on their own ?

Personally if you are seperating them I would put the 1yo in his own room. However, if you are thinking of leaving the 1yo with the 4yo I can't see a problem with leaving them all together in the same room at these ages. My 3 ds have similar age gaps and shared a small room up to being 18, 15 and 12.

move him into the spare room, but have a 'camp bed' type thing for him to sleep in with his brothers when u have guests, so the guests can have his room. Thats what happened when i was a child.
