Frog in throat!

Sorry, this post is a bit gross.

Me and my toddler (1.5) have had a nasty cold for the past week and are now more or less recovered, except for the fact that, because she hasn't properly mastered blowing her nose she now has a really persistent frog load of phlegm in her throat which she can neither blow out nor cough up. She does cough a lot but doesn't really understand to spit anything out. It makes a rasping sound when she breathes, and, though she's not in much discomfort, I am wondering how she will ever get rid of it. If I hadn't blown my nose copiously I would have the same thing, iyswim.

Sorry, this is such a gross post -- has anyone experienced anything similar or do you have any suggestions?

My chap has a lot of stuff in his throat at the minute, the sound when he doers cough some up and swallow it is LOVELY. However it takes a big cough and him going properly red in the face to get it up. Only once a day max. He's also a bit older.. 2.5

I've had steam recommended.. A hot shower room rather than over a bowl obv! And I've propped his cot up so he's sleeping on quite a steep slope.
