doesn't like getting potty dirty

I recently started potty training my 2 1/2 year old son. He loves wearing pants and he loves sitting on the potty, but he gets really upset if he actually does a pooh or wee in it.He shouts "Oh no potty, wipe the potty, wipe the potty." He doesn't like getting his pants wet or dirty either but he seems to think it less bad than getting his potty dirty.
On the few occasions he's done anything in the potty I've congratulated him, told him he's a good, clever boy clapped my hands, done a potty celebration dance etc and he enjoys all this once the potty's been cleaned, but although he often talks about "pooh-poohs and wee-wees in the potty" he usually refuses to do it.
Does anyone have any advice?

Get a step and a training seat for poo time and get him onto the adult loo as soon as you can.
If he is like 99% of toddlers I know he will already have insisted on watching you and other family members on the loo so will be aware that poo and wee gets flushed away from there with no ill-effects.
I would by-pass the potty as much as possible. I hate cleaning poo out of them too - the boy talketh sense!

Agree with marina. I have DD (2.2 and small) on the toilet most of the time. Only have potty from travelling really. But DD is too small to manage with the step so has to be lifted on, but insists on having the step there for effect.

Thanks for the advice. So far every time I've asked him if he wants to sit on the toilet he's said no, but he would probably prefer it to the potty if I put him on it.
Thanks
