Night time nappy change

In the middle on the night while waiting for a bottle to be ready i change my baby's nappy.

My friend was shocked and said she does a quick feed then straight back to bed as changing the nappy "wakes baby too much and wont doze off again as easily".

Am i mad? Or surely a more awake baby is better than one with a sore wet arse all night?!

I was thinking about this the other day, most nappies provide 12 hour protection, so as long as it is just wee, and your baby doesn't suffer from nappy rash, you could easily avoid a change. It definitely had me thinking back to all the times DS was difficult to resettle after I had changed his nappy. Ooo, and congratulations!

I used to give my LO a quick feed and then back down, but he wakes up soaking wet if I don't change him. For me, he'll sleep longer if I do change his nappy.

Modern nappies mean there are no wet arses any more. I only change if there's poo in there, it makes them harder to settle back down if you strip them off in my opinion.

Currently trying to rouse ds2 as I type. He's six weeks, and I always change his nappy as he won't wake up properly to feed otherwise. Can't get more than about 2-3oz in at the moment, which means he's waking me up every 2-3hrs. Frustrating as he can go 3-4hrs if he drinks the whole 5oz!

He also prefers a dry nappy I think (sometimes wakes just for a change). Will prob stop changing wet nappies as he gets older.

when dc1 was bornhe was in special care for about a week, they only changed happiest every 6 hours, unless discovered a poo.
i used to change dc1 more frequently as he seemed to be quite sensitive and get nappy rash easily, dc2 has recently arrived and seems to do so many poos that i am changing every hour or so!

I change my dd1 at about midnight and when she wakes for a feed at about 6am if she wakes inbetween then I don't worry. She settles back down quite well and I settle better knowing she is changed.

I tried leaving him till morning for a change but although nappies claim to stay dry for 12 hours he woke up drenched! I have tried most brands and supermarket options too.

Have you tried using a barrier cream or bepanthem? Works a treat for my DS, we always leave him 12 hours and though he has sensitive skin (very quickly gets rashes from a wet chin etc) he never gets nappy rash.

When they're tiny the nappies don't last 12 hours, I find that happens from about size 3 or 4. But the new baby ones do last from midnight til the morning at least.

When they are tiny, I changed them, when they get a bit bigger I didnt.
Had to start changing 7 month ds a couple of weeks a go again, as he was waking up at 3am for a feed and if I didn't he was soaked in the morning with wet sleeping bag as well.
Changed to aldi nappies and he's not woken up since.

I think we stopped nighttime nappy changes at around 10 weeks unless there was poo, but dd stopped night poo very early unless teething or poorly.
but then my friend still does a midnight nappy change a year on as her dd has a very sensitive bum and cries if she's even the slightest bit wet.
