I was just wondering if anyone was having the same problem? DS is 3 and nearly 3 mthsmths. For nearly 2 mths he has been doing really well weeing on the toilet (he has never wnated to use the potty) but not once in the last month has he done a poo on the toilet. I have sat him on when he seems to have a lot of wind and around the time he normally poos but he just says he can't.He has started telling me when he has done a poo but I think thats probably because he was getting so fed up of me asking if he'd done something! we have tried a sticker chart and the incentive of chocolate if he does it on the toilet (which he loves!) and still nothing! I'm starting to wonder if i should put him in pull ups! Yes I could carry on but i'm running out of pants as he's pooing up to 3 times a day and I'm using a boil wash every day! I know I'm not supposed to get stressed about it but I am!! Does anyone know if its common at this age to still not have the sensation of having to poo as this seems to be what the problem is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jo

Have just gone through this with ds so I can sympathise with you. They are all different but both mine took longer to get the hang of poos in the toilet than wees. Few things to ask yourself - is he comfortable on the toilet itself? Might starting with a potty be an option? Is he concerned about being on the toilet? (my ds was...)
Ease off the pressure about it as much as you can - that can make them worry about it which you really don't want, but at the same time make the whole process as fun as you can. Pictures on the wall in the toilet or on the back of the door, loo roll with pictures etc. You get the idea.
The turning point for me i feel was, oddly enough, when i had a short and to the point chat, but kind of leaving with him as his choice, about how it was better to let his poos out (he was 'holding' everything in by that point) so that he didn't get a sore tummy, and that the best place was on the toilet. Then I shut up about it, sat on my hands and pretended I didn't care what he did!
It's very hard I know but I do feel that fussing too much about it all makes things much worse. Certainly did for me.
Good luck!

Can't add much to what Bamzooki says. Ds2 has just cracked pooing on the toilet, at age 3 and a matter of days. He was also giving himself tummy aches by holding poo in, so we had a LOT of chats about how doing a poo would get rid of the tummy ache.

Ds was also clearly scared of falling in the toilet but would not use a plastic inserty thing - when he finally agreed to use it, I was not sure if it was something dh said to him or if he just decided to be brave.

Have you tried different versions of the plastic insert? I nearly cracked and bought one of those lovely 'dual toilet seat' things for around £24 (small wooden toilet seat 'inside' normal sized wooden toilet seat...) - guess if I'd have bought it a week ago, I'd be praising it as the solution now

Also might not help to know that since he's started pooing on the toilet, he does several a day - so there's something odd going on, that he can go from essential constipated to rather loose, well, overnight really.

Good luck!

I agree totally with Bam, I think ditch the sticker charts and chocolate incentives and pay it much less attention; don't keep asking him about it. Perhaps he is anxious about it for some reason and the attention and encouragement make it worse?

Not trying to be glib, I know how annoying this must be for you..

Ds cracked wees at 3 and cracked poos at 3.5.
