Just that, really. How old was your child when you took the gates off?

Two I think, but small house and he couldn't open doors.

We still have the screwed in one at the top of the stairs, but his bedroom door opens straight onto them and I was worried about him (and me) wandering around in the dark.

My husband removed them when they were 4 and 5, we only had the stairs and the kitchen left and to be fair the children had been able to open them for months & months, its was just reassuring to have the click sound to know they had opened them, whenever if happens it will feel too soon but you will get used to it i am sure! :)

We kept the upstairs one for years, but only closed it at night, because we have a tiny hall with steps up to the bedrooms. It's terribly easy to trip and go down the main stairs too.

As soon as DD could manage the stairs so around 21 months. There is a little gate at the top of the stairs but we never use it.
