Help - 7 month has reacted to eggs!

Dd is 7 months old and has suspected dairy intolerance, for which she has nutramigen formula and we are seeing gastric paediatrician.

We are weaning her and have just tried scrambled egg made with her formula- she has come up with hives on her face and hand (where she touched the egg). Other than the rash she seems herself. Dh is currently trying to get her to sleep as its nap time and there is a lot of crying - normal at nap time.

I can't get through to gp out of hours number. I've called 111 and it will take up to 2 goes for a dr to call me back!!!

For anyone who has experienced this Is there anything we could or should be doing?

We won't try eggs again and will mention this to gastric paediatrician when we see him next month.

Strangely, my daughter (1) has never liked eggs when trying them, and the other day when nibbling a bit of cake mix, she came up in a couple of hives. I thought reaction to eggs too. I just monitored her and she seemed fine, she's been fine.
I won't be offering them again for a while!

I personally wouldn't put her straight down for a nap. My DS had an egg allergy and whilst the rash would come up almost immediately, shortly after that he would vomit. I would delay the nap just as a precaution.

He was allergic to the yoke and white. They will need to do some allergy tests to check.

Thanks. She's had a nap and is awake and fine. Thank god! Rash has pretty much gone now too. She was a little sick on waking but we caught it all.

My son had an anaphylactic reaction to eggs at eight months of age, he started dribbling and coughing at the first mouthful of scrambled eggs, then vomited about a pint of very liquid vomit which gave him hives as it touched his skin.....really scary. We took him straight to A&E as he was wheezing as well, but by the time he got there he was already improving so didn't need any medication or to stay in. Beware though, it is the second time of exposure to egg that can cause anaphylaxis, I couldn't work out why our DS reacted so badly when it was the first time I had given him eggs, but then OH said he had given him a bit if his omelette a few days before but he had spat it out and been sick.....
Good news was he did eventually grow out if it and was able to eat things with eggs in like cakes and pasta, and could eat whole eggs at about age 13. We didn't let him have his MMR until then either as it is apparently derived from chick embryo, our Consultant Paediatrician said he could have it earlier but they we give it in Children's A&E in case they had to resuscitate him! Didn't fancy that....

My son had a mild reaction to eggs from 6 months. He never liked them that much and we noticed after a meal where he'd tried some, he'd get red patches (not raised) all over his face that woudl take an hour or so to go away. There was no reaction other than this (e.g. his hands weren't rashy, he wasn't sick, didn't affect his breathing). It took us a few months to link the red skin to the eggs (obviously he was eating things other than eggs, and the redness didn't appear until after his meal was finished), but once we did, we realised he'd had the same response to eggs since the first time he tried them.

We just kept trying him (every two months or so) as he didn't seem affected other than the red patches on his face, but he always had this reaction and remained uninterrested in eggs until he got to about 2 years old. Even then, he was never that fond of eating them until he was about 3.5 yrs, and at 4, he now loves cheeesy omelettes.

Get some piriton and make a gp appointment to get an allergy clinic referral.
