What age to give baby a comforter or taggy blanket?

I have 9 week old twins and have been given a couple of comforters (teddy with a little soft blanket attached) and taggy blankets. I am not sure what age it is safe to give these to the babies. So far I haven't put anything in the cots or used comforters in case they put them over their faces.

They won't suffocate, you can give them to them now. They won't really do anything with them.

We put one in at around 8 weeks - not because we were worried about safety before that, just that our son was so bloody unhappy up to that point that he wouldn't have noticed a cute little sheep on a blanket next to him!
