Ds1/2 not listening - turning into shouty mummy

I always swore I would never be a shouty mummy but it seems now I am.
I have 4 ds. The eldest are 6 and nearly 5. They totally ignore me unless I shout and it's getting to the point I almost need to scream at them sometimes to get any response. This morning we had no tv/iPad or other distraction in an attempt to get dressed slightly quicker for school. I have all their clothes ready the night before. They still ignored me took 25 minutes to get dressed and only after I nagged and shouted. An feeling quite upset about it as I really hate this.
Any suggestions? Anyone else in the same boat?

Just to note it's not all the time -I'm not a total harridan. Just feels like it.

I go down the 1-2-3 or some sort of consequence (ie take away fave teddy or no playing on my phone) that can be implemented immediately. Also with getting dressed, I treat it like a competition -who can do it quickest, expressing disbelief that they can do it quickly by themselves etc which makes it more of a laugh and a game.

I've done all that Haggisfish. Spend my life counting to 5 as it's not working anymore. Must start confiscating stuff more but it feels mean!

You have trained your dc's that they don't have to respond unless you scream. Now you have to undo that training and the only way to do it is to implement consequences which makes an impact. That's not mean, it's a way of getting your family to function better which is to everybody's benefit.

ps. When my dd was 4 she gave me a hard time about getting dressed every morning. I spoke to her teacher who said I must bring her in her pajamas and she will make a big thing about it. We did that once and problem solved, no more battles about getting dressed.

Lasting light - very safe words. You are right. I guess I should just talk normally and if they don't respond or act on it after 3 requests then they get a minute on the step or something.
I have just remade their sticker charts which have worked brilliantly before.

Good luck. I don't know if time-out will be enough incentive to behave, you will have to see. Otherwise take away their favourite possessions, you're the parent, use what you have available!

Remind them 1-2-3.......then take them out as they are. They'll only do it once !
