Aargh! Mothers and their opinions!

Mine has come to stay with me for a few days and obviously she knows best when it comes to raising MY child.

Every time dd cries dm picks her up saying aaaw she wants her grandma. Even when dd is still crying because she is hungry or just wants me, dm will not give her back to me when I ask her to!

She keeps calling dd her baby!! Arrgghhhh. There's more put there's too much to write.

Anybody else experienced similar?

Circle on the communal calender in bright red pen when she's going home and smile sweetly every time she's a tit she does something like that and know that she's seen it.. But I'm passive aggressive like that!

Good idea. I've just got a new calendar and can easily do passive aggressive.

Argh just caught her trying to shove a dummy in her mouth when dd doesn't need one!

Say "Mum, I'm your baby. That one is mine" every single time.

And if she won't hand you your crying baby when you ask, try "give me my baby now or you are going home".

Set those boundaries right now .

Oh my god, I'd kick her out lol. You're a lot more patient than I. I will not tolerate anyone undermining me in regards to my child. Sometimes I'm sure I appear rude with in laws but if I say he's had enough ice cream, don't you dare give him another spoon

My mother in law is so soooo like this, I could type for hours about it, I've had the whole "my baby" thing since I was still pregnant!! She's even lectured me about how I should give DS a bottle so DH (or her!) can feed him instead, she's complained about DS's name even after we registered him, suggesting names she prefers, and has told me if we moved house (even countries) they'd move too so they are always near my DS...I could go on but yeah I don't want to bore you lol. (In MIL's defence however FIL is just as bad)

Does your mum visit often?
My mum visited and she always wanted to hold DS but she visits like twice a year so I just bit my tongue and got through it, not wanting an argument.
MIL however used to visit weekly (and apparently this wasn't enough!) so it all got too much on me, I talked to DH about it and we started to slowly ease them into coming less often, once a month is a bit easier to deal with.

Ooh my mum does the 'my baby' thing too, and also refers to herself as mummy (grates a lot but she does always correct herself- before doing it again!)

could you perhaps tell her all the current rules in one sitting? We had to do that when pil came to stay... Ie we're not using dumies/putting fingers in his mouth, Bedtime looks like this, we're feeding on demand, or whatever - if you did that and she still got in the way then it's obvious to everyone she's just being difficult and obstructive. And as for holding baby, a lot of reaffirming 'mummy knows best' comments from Dh worked wonders

Follow Jelliebabies advice. tell her your rules and nip it in the bud now, it gets harder to put your foot down the older the child gets
