I'm a first time mum with what seems to be a very hungry boy! I was just looking for some advice on whether the feeding/night time sleeping pattern he's following is normal or whether I could be doing something differently so he feeds a little less often and sleeps a bit more.
My little boy was born 10lb 3oz and has since followed around the 95th percentile for weight. I've been exclusively breastfeeding on demand & typically feed every hour from 0600 to about 1000, then every two hours till about 1600, and then he cluster feeds until bed time between 1800 and 1900. He'll then normally sleep until 0000 or 0200 on a good night and will then feed every 2hrs getting up between 0500 and 0600.
When he feeds it's normally for 10 mins (draining one breast) or sometimes 20 mins (draining both) and he seems satisfied after each feed.
I've tried spacing the day time feeds but found he started to wake more at night. And at night time I always try shushing him before picking up for a feed. Sometimes that works at 0000 but at 0200 and 0400 he always wants a feed. I'd hoped by 16 weeks that he'd be feeding a little less frequently and sleeping a bit better.
I guess my question is whether this is normal and I need to crack on with things as they are... and a lot of eye concealer ;-) or if I could/should be doing something differently? Thanks!
