My 9 week old upset during feeding help!

Hi all, this is my first time at doing this, and am just wanting a bit of advice really if anyone has any. My little girl is 9 weeks old tomorrow, she was breast fed for first month, but unfortunately I suffered with an infection and after that have not been able to. She is on Altimal first milk.
She suffers, we think with trapped wind, we've tried infacol and gripe water and neither have had much effect with her, she has good burps but still seems uncomfortable. We were recommended to use Colief, started 3 days ago. We haven't seen much change yet, is this normal?
She strains a lot both in the day and during her sleep at night, she doesn't always wake up but she sounds like she's really trying to push, like she wants to trump! She poos once a day, or every other (was every day up until last week.) there's no blood in her poo. she gets really upset and over the last 2 days she has strarted crying whilst feeding, and griping, she squirms and cries. This isn't like her, she just normally cries if you want to wind during a feed! Her knees come up and she really is crying with discomfort, after feeds and sometimes without feeding.
Spoke to docs and health visitor, as she had her jabs on Thursday, both said babies suffer like this and don't think there is anything wrong. Should we stick with colief? Any help appreciated!

Is there any chance you could try Aptamil Pepti I, which is a hydrolysed formula incase your LO is reacting to cows milk in the formula. You can get in on prescription. Alternatively you could try Aptamil for reflux, which you can get from a big boots. I think both of those would be worth a try to see if they help.

Thanks, could try the reflux one, after speaking to the doctor in her checkup she didn't seem to think it was a reaction and said it was just a baby thing and when she gets to 3 months it may just go. It's so confusing! It's so confusing knowing what to use!

I know! You do have to be very pushy with doctors. My LO was diagnosed with silent reflux only at 4 months after weeks of me pushing it and forcing them to subscribe. And it was only at 7 months that cows milk allergy was diagnosed, and I had suspected an allergy from two weeks but I was ignored by GPs and HVs!

Yeah, I'm going to see how she goes now, she has just had another poo before bed and that's 2 today which is unusual, and there has been no griping. Touch wood that may have helped her digestion. But then it's the question of when do you take them off colief! Don't want to keep her on it a long time. Will see, thanks for your help, wasn't sure whether to ask on here but it's our first and although we have had advice from friends, it made us panic more rather then helping us!

Don't worry about taking them off it. If it is lactose intolerance, there might be a certain formula you can use for it. I think Aptamil do one. Don't worry too much now, just focus on getting her well and you getting your rest and energy levels back. All the best Smile x

What teats are you using? My 4mo got very grumpy and unsettled when feeding until we moved to faster flowing teats - he wasn't getting the milk out quick enough!

Babyb2013 · 01/02/2014 21:23

Thank you Smile will do we are hoping she might settle down. Yes we have just got some "vary" teats, as we've been using the tommy tippee slow flow, we are trying them tonight, and we have replaced some of the older ones with some more slow flow.
