How do your five year olds go to sleep and what time?

Hi.

My eldest ds is just five. We have always had issues with his sleep but we're not getting anywhere.

He has bath at about 6:45 and then into bed about seven. Dh reads him two stories and then cuddles for a bit and then he is left. We go back up after he calls every five minutes and then stretch it to ten. He doesn't get to sleep until about 8:30 and then is up between 6 and 6:45.

He is in reception and is shattered when he gets home. He can't seem to switch off though. We have tried talking books, musical, relaxation CDs. Letting him read his books. Nothing works
What time do your children sleep? I'm worried he's not getting enough sleep and when I have the two of them alone it is hard work.

Any ideas please

Thank you

My 5 year old dd isnt ready for bed until 8-8:30, she only sleeps for 10 hours at most even from a much younger age. She usually wakes up before 7am. I've learnt its not in my benefit to enfotce an earlier bedtime as it just doesnt work!!

Into bed around 7.00. Asleep after story, cuddle and lights out by 7.20. Its been slipping recently, and since he is always up at 5.10 (I could set an alarm clock by his early morning poo) whatever time he goes to bed, he has had a couple of 6.45 bedtimes recently.

So, 10 hrs a night, and I'd say he can't cope on less. But he will not sleep later. Thank god he obeys his gro clock, and won't come to get me up before 6.15.

Mine is 4.5 and in YR too.

She has a quick bath at about 7 - 7.10 and then goes up to her room to draw or play lego while I bath and bed my youngest. Then I go up to her at about 7.45 ish, she reads her school book to me and I read a bedtime story to her. Then I sing a song and that's it, lights are probably off at 8.15. She will sleep for 11 hours on the dot and be up at 7.15.

Until about 6 mths ago she would protest at my leaving the room but once she started school she is tired enough to nod off at 8.15.

Do you think your boy just isn't ready to settle as early as 7? I know my DD would be bouncing like a loon if we turned the light off at that time.
