Oral thrush and Nystan Antibiotic

I have a 4 month LG and when she was a newborn she developed oral thrush. I noticed today she has a couple of white patches on the inside of her cheeks near her lips. Could it be the start of oral thrush again?

Last time she had it covering the whole of her tongue but this time there isn't any there.

I have nystan antibiotic from last time and wondered if I could treat her with this or would it be 'out of date'... I can't see anything to say not to use it after a certain period or once opened and the box said it expires in 2015

Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Hi. Both of our two had recurrent oral thrush that kept spreading to my breasts (ouch!) and it sounds like your LO's has come back.
I expect the nystan wouldn't be out of date but would reccomend you get some new anyway. If it's anything like the one we had, you use a pipette type thing in the lid to admisnister it and I would be concerned that the thrush was being perpetuated in this way.
If you're BF, make sure the docs give you some cream to apply on yourself as well. That stuff's a pain as you have to wash it off before every feed and re-apply after, but it shifts it pretty quickly.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah you are right I should probably get a new prescription on Monday I just wanted to try and prevent it getting any worse while I caught it early but checking today, it doesn't seem to have spread any further (thankfully) and she doesn't appear to have any problems feeding.

She was breastfed but now formula fed, so I'm lucky in that it hasn't spread to me

Yeah, ours never seemed too bothered by it either. It was always just me that seemed to be made uncomfortable with it.
I hope it all clears up soon xx
