When each of my dc have been in Yr7, they've not had internet on their phones. Problem solved. None of them has been socially ostracised.

Once of secondary age, there is little you can do but rely on them and the standards they have learned.

A device-based filter such as K9 is probably worth it, but cannot be totally relied on (no filter can).

By secondary age, DC are digital natives and there is nothing that little you can do to limit content. This isn't counsel of despair, btw. If you thought you had more time to educate your DC on cyber security and what is 'out there' this is meant to be the wake up call that you need to do it now.
