5 month old sleep

hi was just wondering does your 5 month old sleep through the night. my bundle of joy is still waking up sometimes twice a night looking for a feed x

Both mine slept through from 10 - 11 weeks. Try just giving water. They'll soon realise that they won't get any more milk. Also, don't pick them up or interact. Sounds very cruel but they've for to learn that it's bedtime and not playtime.

I thought they weren't supposed to get water till after 6 months. I do try not to interact but more just check to see if he's comfortable x

Mine doesn't can easy wake 2/3 times a night! Jus remember it won't last forever :-)

DS is the same age and is still waking twice a night at least! Sometimes he can be settled without a feed but not always. I think it's normal but am hoping weaning in a few weeks will help but am not holding my breath

We did have a blissful few nights recently when he slept through, but that was pretty short lived and he's back to normal now

beginning to wonder if I'll ever get a whole nights sleep ever again quite adapted to not sleeping although I am a tad forgetful & sometimes a little grumpy x

I started weaning not made a bit of difference. hope it works for you x

Mine did last night (hooray) but generally he eats twice-- during the night - won't take a dummy and I've tried water (doctors advice as he is big) and it settles him briefly but he wakes an hour or so later for food so I'm not bothering again until he is on solids.

The times ds has slept a good stretch or only woke once I still wake up several times coz it's what I'm used to now so don't actually feel the benefits of him sleeping well when he decides too(not often) :-)

Ds is 6 months and wakes 3 times a night.

well glad to know I'm not the only one who's probably walking around like an extra from walking dead. hate the fact that all my mummy friends seem to be breezing through (so not envious) how do they do it? Lol x

My 5m ds wakes numerous times during the night, though thankfully he's started settling with a dummy rather than needing a feed most of the time. It's normal for babies of this age to wake regularly. Have a look at the Infant Sleep Information Source website - www.isis-online.org.uk. It's very good for putting your mind at rest about baby sleeping patterns.

As for giving a 10-week old water instead of milk - no way!!!!! Their tummies are tiny and they need the milk. I would never want to refuse food to a hungry baby of that age.

Feel your pain Kerrie! I think 2-3 times a night is total normal at this age. Maybe at 6-7 months you can try offering water instead of milk if they wake at night but it's never worked for mine, in fact it just enraged them!

don't think I could. he's up for a reason and as his mummy it's my job to find out what even if it's just a cuddle because he's feeling rather lonely. x

He's probably hungry so no harm in feeding him. My 19 week old wakes once a night, sometimes twice. She has slept through a few nights but not for several weeks now!

I don't mind apart from the times she wakes at 4am and decides she's had more than enough sleep...

well my lo was up at 1:30 & now up again.sleep is so overrated. caffeine will b required tomorrow x

Sleep is for the weak (or so my dd tries to convince me)

We didn't have a great night either, she only woke once but it took 2 hrs to settle her again!

Mine sleeps 7-5:30/6, maybe waking once for her dummy. She only started sleeping longer when we put her in her cot in her own room though.
