GDL - i-GDL support thread?

I have just stared an i-GDL through The University of Law. Quite scary (exciting, but scary) and I have no idea how I am going to manage family/coursework/ freelance work etc.

Anyone out there is a similar situation? Anyone want to join a mutual support thread?

I'm not doing the iGDL but completed the 2 yr part time GDL with University of Law last June so thought I'd say hi!

How's it going so far? I am doing the LPC now - totally snowed under with work. Loved the GDL, LPC not so much!!

Thanks so much for saying hi. :) I am doing the 2 year part time also.... but is is quite scary busy. It is interesting, but the words 'part time' made me think it would be less demanding time wise than it is!!! I feel swamped!
what plans for after the LPC? I have absolutely no idea what I want to do afterwards- a training contract or further specialisation. Right now, we are on a workshop week and I just want some sleep!

It's such a shock when you first start!! I found year 2 easier as you kind of know what you're doing...

I am doing the LPC fulltime as well as teaching once a week - I would not recommend it! Stick with part time if you can...

I have a tc arranged starting this September, got it in the summer between year 1 and 2, which was great in terms of funding. I want to specialise in real estate and construction law, I think...

Should be doing a drafting assessment currently, am turning into the queen of procrastination!!

Oooh, property law is what really interests me I think. Have had various disputes over the years re tenancy rights, boundary disputes etc which sparked my interest. :)

Hmm yes and no in my experience. Lots of people don't have offers yet, it's true. I got a few offers though, and so did a couple of my friends. You need to target firms v carefully. Some are very keen on career changers, so they are good to target. I also did the uni of law mentoring scheme where they match you up with a solicitor who coaches you the through the application process. I actually accepted my tc from my mentor's firm so it was very much worth doing!!
