Hi all,
Feeling like a pretty useless mother as dd (6 mths) slipped out of pram this morning after her nap!!
I went out last night for a meal and had a couple of glasses of wine, been a while so was feeling a little woolly headed this morning.
Put dd in her pram for nap (but didn't strap her in!!!! Y???!
went for quick shut eye a few feet away on sofa!
The next thing a know.... thud...howl!! The bottom of the pram was down and she'd slipped onto the floor.
Quickly picked her up, shaking myself and popped her on breast (comfort). She took to breast well, so figured she can't be too badly hurt.
Now she is gurgling, babbling away and seems really happy as usual!
I'm a first time mum and now feel really crap that i let that happen.
Am i as useless as i feel??

I'm sure you are going to have loads of mums now telling you of the silly things they have done. We've all been there possum.

My DD was just a few weeks old when I thought it would be a good idea to put the moses basket on the bed. I fell asleep on the bed next to her turned over and the moses basket and baby rolled onto the floor!!! She was fine - never did that again though! Don't give your self too hard a time - sometimes us mums learn the hard way!

MamaG · 26/07/2006 13:14

oh yes, you're not alone in doing something daft - you'll never do it again though, look at it that way

I'm convinced babies bounce

Just keep an eye on her, but from the sound of it, she's fine.

Hi Possumhead..I don't think you are crap.I know the feeling.Dp looked after ds for a year when he was born while i went to work. Then we swapped and i looked after ds.My first week..ds was running round the sitting room, tripped over something and cut part of his forehead open on the radiator..i was mortifiedit took me along time to get over that! Also dp has picked ds up in his car seat when he wasn't strapped in and ds fell out.Dp picked up the back instead of the handle.DS is nearly 7 and there have been lots of incidents..some i think'oh dear i could have avoided that'..others just happen.Don't worry you are not crap!
I am sure you will hear lots of tales on mn so don't be so hard on yourself.lol

I did the classic hanging heavy shopping on the back of the buggy ? managed to overbalance the buggy when we got home with ds in it. And let him roll off the bed once when I was stood right next to him! We have all done it, please don't feel bad.

Ulysees · 26/07/2006 13:16

Oh this happened to me with ds1. He was young and put him in buggy, thinking I'd strapped him and he went clonk You feel so guilty when it's your first.

My mate went one better, though not really her fault. The dr came a calling for first time mum visit at the same moment her jack russel decided to jump in the moses basket Has never done it before or since little blighter! Baby ok though

Just thought of another one - flew home on friday with my 2 children. DD 3 years and DS 1 year. All through the flight I managed to keep DS on the seat by leaving the fold away table down and he played with his sister with no problems. Landed, started to pack my rucksack, turned my back and hey presto DS took a nose dive onto the floor of the aeroplane. He was fine (I was sooo embarassed as it felt like the whole plane was looking at me thinking "bad mother") as mamaG says they bounce!!
