Had a 'moment' last night and got all miserable and tearful about how I wish I could spend more time with ds...blah blah blah...suffice to say...I can't, but what I can do is stop sitting around feeling sorry for myself and do stuff to make the most of the time I can spend with him (which isn't that little at all in the grand scheme of things - 3-4 hours a day and all weekend ffs!)

So, things to do with a just one year old...
so far am thinking:
go for walk to see the ducks on the pond
off to the sea front to try to eat pebbles (ds) and to stop ds eating pebbles (me)
Hand/foot painting

If there are any building sites around, go and look at the diggers etc (from a safe distance, obviously)

if you live anywhere near the country - go combine spotting - the harvest is in full swing at the moment.

also train spotting - my boys love watching trains go by.

at idea of taking my child train spotting! But good idea! There is a station about 25 mins walk away...the whole city centre is being "developed" so plenty of large yellow vehicles with chunky tyres etc! Am also close enough to county to take quick drive to see some cows/sheep etc...

see the opportunities are there... I just need to get off my self-pitying arse and get on with it!

okay, you're allowed 10min of self pity and a cup of tea...

now get out the door!

tbh just about anything you might see on a walk can be made interesting with a bit of Joyce Grenfell-style mummy-monologue.
(Am remembering one particular walk where we got about 200 yards then saw a window cleaner - cue 10min of absolute fascination and the rest of the day spent referring to them at every opportunity)

any woods nearby, or a river to go for a walk by. And then there is a trip to the swimming pool.

JessaJam · 26/07/2006 13:17

can't get on with it just yet as have to sit behind this desk for a while longer...but can plan something to do each day... instead of wishing I had all day to spend with him (mope mope mope!)
