Help!! I have just changed my pram to a buggy. My 5 month old has never napped in the cot, only the pram. I now have a HYSTERICAL baby who won't nap in the buggy OR the cot. She is currently bawling in her cot with me going in every ten mins to comfort. Can someone tell me she will sleep at some point this is horrible!!

That sounds horrible, your poor DD.

Would she nap on your bed? Our 7 month old takes all his naps on our bed. And as there is room for you too, you could comfort her initially to help her drift off (so she's not in there on her own). Have you had her outside in the buggy to see if she'll nap (e.g. having it in mortion)? Or is she just not happy with it at all? DS1 would only nap in a pushed buggy and napped better when outside than inside (DS2 doesn't like napping in his pram/buggy at all!)

I wouldn't leave her to cry hysterically for 10 minutes at 5 months, I think she's too young (mind you, I'm a softee and wouldnt' let any child of any age cry hysterically for 10 minutes - so not the best person to comment :-D ) and is probably scared she's being put somewhere different for her naps and wanting comfort. Since you've changed where she naps, I'd offer her comfort until she gets used to the new place you want her to nap.

after 2 and a half hours of buggying, cotting, feeding, feeding on my bed laying down, walking and back to buggying, she is finally asleep (in the buggy) with lots of strokes of cheek. Phew! It was the first day today, sorry, didn't make myself clear, and yes, I prob don't leave her for ten mins. Feels like ten minutes but is probably around 3 :o)
I will take her out for a walk in it again when she wakes up, and hopefully by nap number 2 she will feel a bit better about the change. Thanks!

Could try a pre-nap routine - mini version of bedtime, eg read book, feed in dark room with lullaby, then put in cot. This helped us in similar circs

I do a pre-nap routine every day, which worked for pram, but not for cot. Thanks though, I will keep trying the cot on random days and am sure one day she will nap in it!

Second day a nightmare again. 3/4 of an hour after much face stroking and tears this morning and nothing much since. I am going to convert between the pram and buggy I think. If she will only nap in the pram then so be it. Does it matter?

Claremoss - the way I see it, wherever you get them to sleep is fine, doesn't matter where as long as they're safe. DS1 would sleep in a moving buggy or after a bfeed, so many times he took his naps on a pillow on the sofa (with a million cushions around him in case he moved!) Ideal? Not at all, but hey, it worked, we got through it and things got easier.

As the old saying goes 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' :-D

Hi claremoss

I have same problem, my 4 month old DD will not sleep in her cot! I have a toddler so no time for loads of comforting. I used a sling for first three months and it's where she wants to be. Body broken thou can't carry her in it anymore!

Watching and you are not alone.
