Sleeping with the light on......

Tw1nkle · 05/01/2014 22:18

We have alays left the landing light on for our DD (5). She is now saying that she doesn't want it on anymore - which is great....as we can't shut our bedroom door fully, so the light shines right through to our room!
DH thinks we should leave it on however.
What do your little ones do?
Thanks.

I don't have small children any more, but we leave the landing light on anyway, it's convenient when going to the bathroom.

Those who prefer to sleep in the dark shut their door, others leave theirs open for a half lit room.

I keep the landing light on at night for me as much as the DCs as I'm scared of the dark. DCs both sleep with a night light with their doors shut. Our is open so I can have some light and also keep an ear out for nighttime wakings.

We have always taught our kids to sleep in the dark with the door shut. (DH is a snorer). Never been a problem. We have a light sensitive night light that illuminates the landing enough for loo trips at night without wasting electricity/bulbs.

maybe a small novelty torch for dh if he is scared of the dark?

starfishmummy · 06/01/2014 08:51

We leave ours on and ds is 15!!
It's handy if I have to go to the loo in the night.
However we have a long narrow landing with no windows so it is very dark and the lights are at either end (and not very bright) so don't disturb us

ILoveAFullFridge · 06/01/2014 08:53

Dimmer switch on the landing, turned down to minimum at night. Have always done this, even pre-dc.

Ragwort · 06/01/2014 09:13

We never got into the 'leaving the light' on issue - fortunately it never worried our DC and as DH and I are really bad sleepers it is better all round if we have the lights off.

What is the reason that your DH wants the light left on?

LastingLight · 06/01/2014 09:16

If she wants it off then switch it off.

Shutupanddrive · 06/01/2014 20:29

Mine have always slept with lights off, mostly because it would annoy me as I need darkness to sleep, and they have just got used to it
