I am utterly shit at dealing with this stress :-(

DD is 10mo and today has had her first sickness bug. She's absolutely fine except she can't keep anything down. I'm a mess. I have mild emetophobia which doesn't help but I'm sat upstairs sobbing while DP, who is being brilliant, takes care of her. I feel like I'm on pins waiting for her to puke again and am cross with myself for being so crap.
My control freakery HATES that I can't do anything to make it go away.
Fucking hell, someone give me a slap around the chops and tell me to get a grip. She's fine, FFS :-(

Is normal. Is terribly stressful when your DC are ill...imagining worst and all of that.

Poor you. Good that your DH is on the case with helping.

I still get into panicky mess and mine are teens!!

Pancakeflipper · 04/01/2014 15:16

My sympathies.

I also get ridiculously stressed. It's the worry I think. My youngest was a poorly baby which triggered my feat and I still go into meltdown.

She is ok, and her daddy can look after her. Let the panic go, deep breaths and you will handle it ok.

Thank you, your posts had me in tears again! Am trying to man up and take care of her while DP nips to the shop.

I hadn't thought about counselling, no. If I'm honest I've been like this as long as I can remember: when my mum got ill one night I ran downstairs and hid in the dog basket (I was about 21!!!); when my dogs are ill I immediately imagine the worst. Counselling. May be something to think about.

I feel similar about these bugs, it's horrid. If it helps at all quite a few of them seem to limit themselves to children IME. Hope your DD feels better soon.

Last spring my health anxiety was overwhelming. Finally telling DH about the true extent of it was the best thing I ever did and I haven't felt as bad since.

((hugs))

Yes. Thank you, you have given me something to think about. And I'm happy to report that DD has successfully kept down half a banana and is currently consuming some dry toast :-)
DP sent me for a bath and a G and T and I'm starting to feel better now too...
