my 4.5 month old son has had a great bedtime routine and since 8 weeks old and has slept through the night (well woke up but no feeds) and woke at 7ish. however he has been poorly recently which messed his routine as he didn't feed well. we are at the point now that he is back to feeding during the day ok but when it comes to his night time feed he refuses it. there is plenty of time between feeds and he does have a nap before his final feed, but he just refuses it and wants to nap. he will have a 40 min sleep and then want his feed, but due to this later feed and bedtime he is waking up earlier. we cant think of what else to try cause we don't want this to be the new routine for him, any helpful suggestions would be great.

My experience with my DC was that as soon as we got used to their sleep pattern then they'd suddenly change :(

4.5 months is a normal time for growth spurts - he's learning new skills, and growing lots. Do a MN search for '4 month sleep regression' lots and lots of previous threads about it. My son is now 4 years old, but I remember (not so fondly) when he was the same age as yours and his sleep was all over the place!

Yep, my ds is almost 5 months and for the last few weeks his normal night time sleeping pattern has been out the window. The last two nights have been a big improvement though. crosses fingers tightly

It's very normal for a babies sleep pattern to change at 4 months - yours sounds not so bad as ours was! I think it's them growing etc / not much you can do but gently keep your routine in place and he will change patterns again at some
Point

Why do you think a later feed would mean he wakes earlier? The two may not be connected - I think they just become worse sleepers at this age generally !
