I have a 3yo and a baby but only really bath them about 2/3 times a week, baby I'm not so concerned about as currently still too little to get into a mess but should I really be bathing eldest every evening?sometimes I just seem to run out of time of an evening! And if not how do you mommies of daughters make sure the girly bits are cleaned every day I try chasing her around in the morning with a sponge but not really sure if that's sufficient really!

I'm a nanny so don't have children of my own, but my bosses used to bathe the eldest every day, but now they have two it's usually every other day.

You can top and tail the eldest before bed with a flannel. But of course the girl parts are self-cleaning so I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm pretty sure I was only bathed once a week!

KatOD · 30/12/2013 11:11

Nope, used to do DD every day (she's 2) but she's so tired after nursery we now aim for every other day (and I know people who manage far less frequently than you do!). Don't beat yourself up, it's fine!

Buzzardbird · 30/12/2013 11:11

Absolutely not! Not good for their skin and not necessary unless they have been rolling in mud or colouring in bed (yes DD, I am looking at you!)

A once over with a damp clean flanned in between baths or showers is fine. 2/3 times a week sounds fine.

Nope, not the Littlies.

My older boys as almost-11 and almost-10 get pongy, but thankfully they are old enough to shower themselves.

TheGreatHunt · 30/12/2013 11:15

I usually do but it's very drying for their skin so scaling back to every other day with a wipe in between (4&2)

Only1scoop · 30/12/2013 11:18

3.5 yo we bath her every evening.

ChutesTooNarrow · 30/12/2013 11:19

No, DS has eczema and he would be in terrible discomfort if bathed everyday. A bath once or twice a week and daily washes is fine for him, he's four.

Aworryingtrend · 30/12/2013 11:22

Ds is 14 months and also has ezcema so gets bathed every other day, alternating with a top and tail wash with nappy free time.

emsyj · 30/12/2013 11:22

I bath 3.5yo and 11mo DDs every day - quite often I get in first, then DD1 gets in with me, then DH gets in with DD2. Family bathtime! We are totally bath-obsessed here though, and I've always done it as part of a bedtime routine. Also DD1 is not reliable at wiping her bum and she doesn't get help at preschool so she is none too fresh by the end of the day.

Most of the other mums I know are in the every other day category though.

FourAndDone · 30/12/2013 11:22

4 children 7,6,3,2 and I bathe every other day.

Mouldypineapple · 30/12/2013 11:23

My DD is just 4. Until a few months ago a night off a bath was an exception. However for one reason or other it has drifted to a bath 3-5 times a week. If no bath she gets a wipe down below with baby wipes before bed and always in the morning as she still wears a nappy in bed.

I used to bathe mine twice a day as babies. They need IMO a proper bath sitting in nappys all day and night.

Now they're older they just have a bath before bed unless we are back very late and even then I most likely still shove them in.

It's not hard to run a bit of water and dip them in and out. Just laziness IMO not to.

DameDeepRedBetty · 30/12/2013 11:29

It was usually every day when they were tiny, going down to every other day when they were toddlers, then by the time they started school it was when they needed it. When puberty started to kick in, they did have to be gently encouraged to do it more often, however, they're teenagers now and twice this holidays I've been kept waiting outside the bathroom while one of them rinses her hair interminably!

roobywooby · 30/12/2013 11:31

We used to do every day, but for some reason and another we skip a couple of days a week now. Sometimes I'll take DD in the shower with me in the morning if we've skipped a bath though. I dont think bathing every day is necessary, however when she was a bit younger it was religiously every day as part of setting the bed time routine (bottle feed, bed), you might want to consider that with baby and sleep routines.

FunnysInLaJardin · 30/12/2013 11:31

I am lazy then! My boys have a bath twice a week. They go nuts when near water and my nerves can't stand any more than that. It's enough IMO

Cerisier · 30/12/2013 11:36

Yes bathed them every day, both girls in together in a big bubble bath. It takes no time to run and then they just played in there for a bit, which they enjoyed. Quick wash of hair and wrap them in a big towel- job done. Now they are bigger they shower each day.

Pannacotta · 30/12/2013 11:39

No, I used to but now its every other day which is easier all round and better for their skin. They are 9 and 6 and don't really get dirty/smelly yet.

CheckpointCharlie · 30/12/2013 11:41

At least every other day, dd1 is 11 and getting a bit spotty and hormoney, dd2 is just a mess bucket.

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 30/12/2013 11:44

Nope. Mine are 5 and 2 and i bath them maybe 3 times a week, only more if they have got really dirty.

My youngest has bad eczema and it would wreck his skin to be in the bath every day.

DontmindifIdo · 30/12/2013 11:50

Every day here - I'm so shocked to hear other people have toddlers who aren't filthy by bedtime, am I the only parent of a preschooler who is incapable of walking around muddy puddles (sodding peppa), or of eating an evening meal without getting it in hair/all over them, who runs around all the time so is always a bit sweaty... I could do sponges, but running a bath and dunking him in is just quicker.

The 6 month old gets a bath most nights, but not every.

WowserBowser · 30/12/2013 11:51

My Ds has exzema too so about 2/3 a week - anymore would be too drying. Even with his special stuff we put in the bath.

Doubt i would bother every day anyway. He's not smelly and yes he wears nappies but that is what wipes are for isn't it?!

Iwaswatchingthat · 30/12/2013 11:52

I bath my 8 and 7 year old every single day. They love it, find it relaxing and it is a nice end to the day. I love tucking them in all clean and cosy.

The only time I wouldn't is if they had been swimming in the afternoon and already had a shower/hair wash.

I shower morning and night myself though!!! Perhaps we are washing obsessed!

WowserBowser · 30/12/2013 11:53

No, my Ds isn't always filthy. If he jumps in puddles its in wellies. If he gets food anywhere it's on his clothes. Food on his face gets wiped off straight away.

WhosLookingAfterCourtney · 30/12/2013 11:54

'girly bits' aren't dirty. Unless she's playing naked in the mud?

I bathe my ds every night as he's 16mo, gets grubby and also the routine helps him wind down. Dd bathes every other night, or more if she wants to. She's 3.
