as in I have been trying to do some school work with DC (age 4) with his reading words

I know he can read them but he was just messing about and not even trying

I offered a sticker if he completed it but he kept being silly

so I left him too it and now he in colouring in

am I being a soft touch by not making him do it?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Just try again another time. At 4pm they are usually tired anyway and 4 is very little.

He's 4! Blimey I'd give him a break.

Personally I wouldn't be doing school work at all during the Xmas break, kids deserve a rest, reception kids even more so!

I hadn't planned on him doing any homework either but I thought that in a quiet time it might provide the structure he needs

at least I don't feel too bad now about not keeping it up every day Grin.
