Argh - DS (6) meltdown, because I tried to give him some 'feedback'......

DS is a bright, high achieving and competitive sort of child. It's not something we've ever particularly driven/ encouraged, it's just how he is....
BUT, as a result, he is SOOOO stubborn.
We had to write something for school tonight and he tried to give up/ finish after only a few lines. I was trying to get him to write more and he kept saying, 'no, I'm finished'.
Thing is, I KNOW this is an issue at school too - in fact it was the only thing his teacher said he had to work at - making sure that he captured all his ideas, and made his stories longer.

I tried to gently tell his this tonight and he completely flew off the handle, told me "I wasn't a teacher, so he wasn't taking any notice of me" and now he's stormed off to his bedroom !

Help! Any ideas?

Threaten to tell the teacher what happened?

Or actually do so, and encourage the teacher to communicate directly with your son instead of expecting you to act as intermediary.

Or (if you think the teacher is communicating directly with him) just leave him to take the consequences of his actions.
