How did you convince your DC to start using a sippy cup?

DS is 11mo. I think I've tried every sippy cup available on this planet. There's 11 of them lined up in the cupboard. DS will NOT drink from any of them. He plays with them, throws them away, waves about, you name it. He will only drink from a bottle. Any advice? TIA

Have you tried an open cup (doidy)?

Otherwise I'm afraid it's usually a matter if cold turkey. No drinks offered in anything other than a sippy cup, including milk for all but bedtime bottle if you really want to keep it.

Dd is nearly 8m and was ebf bottle refuser. She was unimpressed with the introduction of a sippy cup but with persistence she now manages well.

following this thread with interest. mine is EBF and refuses a bottle so now trying a sippy cup. I'm tempted to give him water though a bath sponge as he has no problem sucking them dry Xmas Grin

A straw cup was better. Try a straw with a cup - I had read that EBF babies can manage straws better so used it with dd. she took to it much more quickly than ds did with a sippy cup (as don't need to tip it up).

She now drinks from anything!

Oh an open cup I have not tried. I shall try it asap.
He didn't like the boob, didn't like slow flow teats, now doesn't like the sippy cup

He's excellent when it comes to solid food. I do not understand how a baby can be excellent with finger foods, not bad with using the spoon but not use a cup at all. He doesn't even hold his own bottle yet lazy, surely takes after his father

this one was a fav of both of my dc (both EBF).

My dd struggles to actually tip the sippy cups up to get something out (11mo) so gets frustrated, I've started using the same command and helping her (you have to tip it to get it! Whilst tipping it myself) she's getting there... Slowly!

We did an open sippy cup in the bath, so she could hold the handles, feel when she spilt it down herself and I could stop worrying about mess! She regarded it as a game, where before it had been a form of torture Grin

DS does this hilarious thing, sits on the floor, puts the cup between his legs and bends over trying to drink from it. Erm, gravity, you know, it's not gonna work. Maybe a straw is a good idea. I shall try that too.
