Six month old won't sleep in cot

Hi
I have a 2 year old and a nearly six month old. Both are great sleepers. My baby had a cold a few weeks ago and when he would wake at night I found the easiest thing to do was to put him in our bed (in same room). Well, he just loves it and I'm kicking myself now because he was in such a good routine. Now, he falls asleep downstairs and I put him into cot bed. Within half hour or so he'll let out a cry and the easiest thing to do is put him in our bed where he'll go straight to sleep. I don't want to let him cry because he'll wake the 2 year old in next room.

What's the best way to deal with this?

Probably not the answer you want to hear but I just let mine sleep in my bed! They all transferred at some point. I used to put them down to sleep in the cot and then bring them into our bed when they woke up. Now they all sleep in their beds though DD has only just begun sleeping through at 2.5

If you really want to get him back in the cot I think you'll probably have to teach him to fall asleep in there rather than putting him down already asleep. We're two weeks in to doing this with our 6m DS and although there was quite a lot of crying the first few nights his sister (4.2) didn't stir and she is in the next room.
