Juice for baby's

Hi I'm new to this. My 8 month old has 3 7oz bottles a day and 3 meals. During meals he doesn't drink hardly any water so today I added literally a dribble of juice (no added sugar) I tasted it and it still tasted just like water but my son must have noticed a difference as he drunk 2oz during his lunch. I just wondered what mums give there babies juice. I no I gave my 13 year juice at this age but things have changed so much that everything I did then is deemed wrong. I will only give a lil juice if i fill his not getting enough fluids in the day but just wondered what other mummy's done Smile

I never give juice only milk and water:-).

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 18/12/2013 17:23

My son has milk, water and very watered down juice. During the hot period he wasn't drinking enough water but would drink juice. The dentist said as long as it's drunk in one go rather than sipped throughout the day it's no different than them eating fruit. I try and brush his teeth afterwards if I can.

It's much less hassle in the long run if your baby will drink water.

One of the (few) things worth persisting with.

I am not sure that it matters that your baby doesn't drink with his meals. He is still getting plenty of water in his milk.

His not got any yet this is the first time ever giving him juice and it certainly won't be made a habit of. I give water during meals as however good an eater he is at times he coughs or gags so a lil drink is needed and 3 bottles one at 8 11.30 and 7.30 surley ain't enough for a hole day if his not overly keen water. He literally drinks about 2oz of water a day as pushes it away x

I always swore I'd never let my dc have juice. Dd (now aged 11) loved her milk and water and would drink masses of water throughout the day. Even now she will only drink water. Nothing else ever! (When all her friends are drinking coke etc!)

And then ds came along (now aged 18 months)....

He flatly refused to drink milk at all suddenly almost overnight at about 12 months. We kept offering it to him but he just spat it out and in the end we just replaced with cheese and yoghurt for calcium (he's a big eater) and he wouldn't drink water either! Literally nothing! After about 3 weeks of dreadful constipation I gave in and offered him some watered down squash and he gulped it down.

So now I have become the mum I didn't think I would be and ds has juice a lot! Oh well. Oops. But otherwise he just will not drink anything!
I do brush his teeth a lot though and fingers crossed he might like water one day. I still offer water regularly too (he just won't bloody drink it).

I swore I wouldn't for as long as poss. Him not being keen on water has come sooner than I would have liked but oh well his a healthy happy lil baby and eats very well. Quite like this site some useful info x

Just water and boobies. Fruit juice is not as nutritious as real fruit. And water helps with contipation

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 18/12/2013 21:29

It sounds fine to me, he's 8 months old not 8 weeks, and it sounds very dilute.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 18/12/2013 21:34

Honestly. It's juice not flipping rat poison. It's fiiiiine.

zara83 · 18/12/2013 22:20

Hehe I no every mum does diff and with a 13 year age gap this is like doing it all again so I like to check on what other mums do. But yep it's not rat poison and it's super super diluted and it's also only gonna be in occasions. I see a mum pour a fruit shoot in a 9 month olds bottle now that's so so wrong. Thanks for your advice xx
