Would liners work in swim nappies?

the dts can only wear pampers, or they get rashes. They've been in huggies little swimmers most of the week and are getting very sore. I've got washable swim nappies, but what happens when they poo? Could I line them with something? They pooed in them last time and I nearly binned them.

You should be able to flush what you can down the loo & then bag the re-usable napy & wash it at home. If oyu don't want to do that you could try using liners - nothing to lose. I reckon they would get soaked but probably still strong enough to enable you to chuck the lot down the loo & take a less stained swim nappy home.

Try them in a paddling pool/bath if you want to experiment.

I only use them at home, in the paddling pools, well, until we go away. It all seems to come out in bits, and sticks, and doesn't want to be flushed away. Sorry, tmi!!
Where would I get liners from?

I get mine at Yummies on the web. I think postage is free & I've never found anywhere cheaper.

You can probably get liners in Mothercare, bigger Boots or even some large Woolworths though if you wanted to see what they look like to try out. Make sure you get flushable/biodegradable ones (Yummies ones are)though if the intention is to bin the lot down the loo.

How old are you babes? I mean is the poo pre-weaned stuff or more solid? Liners aren't going to stop it coming out the side of nappies - only a good fitting nappy will do that. They might just make it easier to get rid of down the loo though.

they are 15 mnths, but still producing quite runny poos, espec in this heat. It's not coming out the sides, jsut coating the whole of the inside, and it's like trying to srub away bitty glue!

why don't you coat their nappy area in a good cream like metanium before puting them in the swim nappies?

would it not wash off? and is it better than sudocreme? I've tried using other nappies with sudocreme, but with no luck. Pampers aren't ideal, as they fit poorly and often leak out the sides so we tried all sorts, but they always got rashes.

metanium is very thick and paste like and won't wash off, it is especially fro nappy rash and its praises have been sung many a time on MN! that's what I would do.

Any idea what causes the rashes? I don't see why a proper swim nappy would cause a problem - no chemicals. Are you thinking that the nappy would be ok, it's just the poo problem?

Anyway you could time swimming to avoid poo time or are you dealing with completely irregular poo times? Must be hard with 2 as well cos I bet they're not in sync with each other.

dt1 has velvety skin, and his bottom looks scarred due to nappy rash, so I'll love you forever if it works!

pretty irregular poo times. They manage between 1-5 times a day, and at any time really. Always both at 9sih actually, then it unscheduled! It's been so hot, they've been in swim nappies and sun suits all day, out in the paddling pools, since they hate being indoors.

They are ok with their reuseable swim nappies, no rashes. But huggies little swimmers aggravate them same as any other nappy except pampers. It's especially bad around where the leg cuffs go. Not sure exactly what it is, but it causes deep graze looking marks which look very sore then scab over, so not just a normal rash iykwim.

The liners obviously won't stop the poo contacting with his bottom but I agree with the metanium idea - it is more of a paste than Sudocrem & my HV recommended it at one point. I think I got some in Morrisons so it must be widely available. Also, for afterwards you could try something like Kamillosan cream for soothing - that's also quite thick (& natural ingredients too).

Oh. Replies crossed there. My 18 month old dd has had nappy rash lately & she's just been naked in the paddling pool under a makeshift canopy all weekend & last 2 days.

If it's the leg cuffs that do the damage have you looked at fleece nappy wraps ? Maybe not for this weather & I'm not an expert on them but there are people on MN who just love them. Try searching on here or googling. THey are really soft.

aren't they for real nappies? I'm not a real nappy kind of girl, hate cleaning poo, don't have the time to wash nappies, left it too late now etc. Kind of wish I had tried them earlier now though, with the dts sensitive bottoms.
I'd let mine go naked, if they didn't poo unreliably!

it's not like cloth nappy users have all the time in the world to handwash their precious bundles and then blow them dry with air from their own mouths

I'm a hard line clothy too but Kelly does have twins so give the girl a break eh.

By the way I must admit that disposable swim nappies annoy more than disposable everyday ones for some reason! I went to a pool that said 'Brand Name (can't remember it) nappies must be worn by all children up to the age of 4'.
My two year old went in her swimsuit and baby in a swim nappy and no-one said anything which was prob a good thing as I was livid!

c, I have four kids right. Twins still in nappies, a probably autistic ds, and a dd who is very behind in school and needs a lot of help. I am in the third year of a law degree, and I also do every bit I can to try to add to our family income (retail on ebay and web design). So while I fully appreciate how hard it is to hold down two jobs and kids, before you fly off the handle I do NOT have time to wash nappies!!! I struggling to get time to bloody eat, never mind do extra launtdy.

Get to bed woman - what are we still doing MNing at this late hour??? You are doing a great job so don't stress about nappies or what people on MN say.

I got really annoyed when i was pg when people used to pop up on the board I was on and say 'I can't be washing 247' or 'washing nappies doesn't fit into my lifestyle' as if I was washing 247 and had nothing else better to do

took it out on you tho' - I do know how hard it is with a special needs child cos dd has cerebral palsy and potty trained v late

I hear this excuse a lot from people with much less busy lives than you and it gets my goat, it makes out that I'm a slave to my washer

I'm sorry for flaring up back at you, too! I can see what you mean, it's jsut really is the case that I don't have time.

Can I pipe up with a suggestion? Have you tried different reusable swim nappies. I started off with mothercare/floaties, etc with towelling inside, which poo does cling to, but now use Motherease or Kooshie swim nappies which don't have towelling but have a mesh net (sim. to men's swim shorts but alot finer so catches poo beautifully).

They both undo like nappies so you're not dragging poo down their legs when you take them off too.

thanks vkone, those might be worth lookign at. The mothercare ones do come up small too, and are gettign rather tight, so I will have a look around. I love the bug in a rug thing on that page too, my boys would have loved that when tiny!
