How do i stop my 14 month old diving off the side of the sofa??

DS is into everything, and loves climbing onto and sitting on the sofa. A couple of times though he has dropped something over the arm of the sofa onto the floor and tried to dive after it. I managed to grab him, but I'm worried if I'm not quick enough next time, he will fall over the side onto the laminate floor and hurt himself. I did suggest to DH perhaps putting a pillow there, but dh was worried ds may see it as a game then, and do it even more Grin . Any suggestions, please?

You won't be able to stop him, I'm afraid! He's too young to understand instructions. Lighting

sorry, presses post too soonBlush

lightening reflexes and second to that, the pillow, are the way to go.

Your boy will either grow out of it, or topple and learn that it's not fun.

Yes we have had a fair few of these over the last few months. I try to keep an eye on him and stop him before he topples. But sometimes it cant be stopped in time.

Aah, snap! My 14 month old does this too, only we have tables at the end of each sofa he likes to try and get onto. Maybe a beanbag? I take the approach of tackling him back onto the sofa which seems effective.

Show him how to get off and stay with him! I've has this with my youngest who split her lip doing this!

Sorry but another one here recommending the pillow approach... My ds is 20 mo now and loves diving off the sofa, whilst giggling manically. I recommend Valium and gin for you, it's a terrifying phase Confused

The annoying thing is that he can and does get off the sofa normally, he just seems to be obsessed with the side of it. Oh well, guess I need to sharpen my ninja skills up Grin

She still does it. So we now take her to gymnastics!
