Could he be overtired? My 11 week old DS does that when he's trying to go to sleep. I recognise it now and put him in his bed before he gets really stressed. Sometimes he needs a dummy to calm down a bit but usually if I time it right he's fine. He's always in bed by 6.30, I give him a split BF at 5 and then 6 - have to slot in twin 2yo DDs you see.
Might be worth a try?

He does it everynight though? Hes currently feeding and wide awake
I cant put him down before 9, hes asleep by 7:30 but if I dare move or try put him down before 9 he wakes and I have to start again
Only it's getting later and later, ita driving me mad as I'm on the go from 6am with my other dc.
Last night it was 11pm by the time he finally settled looks like it's a long one again
He wont take a dummy no matter how hard I try

Have you tried a firmer bedtime routine so he knows what's going on?
With the twins I used to feed, bath, pjs and second half feed in dim lights. They soon got the hang of it.
DS is a bit more tricky as I'm running around after twins but I still do one feed when twins having tea then they play a bit, I wash DS and change into pjs then do second feed whilst twins watch a bit of telly - quietly - then it's cuddle and bed for him. I can then focus on twins bedtime.
DS used to be v hard to settle and like you say was wide awake except I now know he was too stimulated to sleep.
Do you have any sort of routine going?

Yea we do bathtime then feed/dress for bed then me, and baby go into older ds room for bedtime stories baby either sits up and looks at the book or feeds then we leave ds in bed and thats when the fun begins! He will usually be asleep I just cant put him down

Dd is just 5 months (I feel your pain) at the moment I feed her to sleep laying on my bed, then when she's asleep but still sucking (which she would do all night if I let her) I've found stroking her cheek till it just annoy her a little she will De latch to move hrr head and i have the dummy ready If she sstarts to root. I put her in her ( co~sleeper) when i go in sometimes
I swear the startle reflex comes back at 4months.
This too shall pass.

My three month old does this too, but sometimes she does go into cot ok so it's worth always trying. Also waiting 20 min or so until she's in a really deep sleep can work. Failing that, I've invented a Hairy Gripper Top jellyjuggling.wordpress.com/2013/12/13/78/
