My 13 year old daughter has always been the main one in the family to get head lice. She got them once on holiday where we had no way to get shampoo for them so we ended up cutting her hair short (she was only 5 so wasn't that horrific!) and combing through with conditioner. The last time she got them we didn't notice until the infestation was bad and she had a rash on her neck. It took weeks to get rid of them and the nitty gritty comb was the saving grace i think!
This was about year and bit ago now. Now last night she was tying her hair back and i noticed her neck was covered in a rash again. She had been trying on hats with her nana just over two weeks ago and she says her head started itching couple days ago. So it was straight into shower covered in conditioner (it was 10pm so way to late to go to chemist) and nitty gritty comb through. Now i am pretty sure i got a few eggs and what could be old egg sacks (not sure as she has psoriasis on her scalp at times) out BUT i never found any live ones. So left conditioner on and plaited her hair and sent her to bed. Now this morning i did her hair again with the nitty gritty comb and still no live ones just couple of eggs. Rash was slightly better. Packed her off to school with her hair plaited tight to her head and got some hedrin. Now the issue is i have done her hair agin with the comb and conditioner tonight and still no live ones! I have done this often enough now to know what they look like at each stage so doubt i am missing them, but the rash is still on her neck and shoulders as well now however i can't use the hedrin until i have seen a live one. I even checked her elder sister who other than severe dandruff (she is supposed to use medicated shampoo but teenagers never do as they are told, lol) she had no eggs or live ones either.
So the quandary is do i just keep going as is and doing the comb through twice a day or do i risk using the hedrin. Could i just have missed the live ones due to lateness last night. Does just doing the comb through work as well as chemicals? Other issue is she is away tomorrow night and saturday night at a cadet christmas weekend. Her hair has to be hairsprayed into tight bun but should i give her the comb to run through her hair when she is getting ready for bed? I have never had issue where she has the rash but no lice. Very confused.
So chemicals or natural method?
Thanks x
