Worst parenting ever....

I've an 8 month old. He's getting better at sleeping, but not quite fully self settling yet. He'll fall asleep if he's being cuddled or having his bum patted while he's in his cot.

This week I've had sickness and diarohha. LO also had it, but seems to be over it now....back to eating solids, no more sickness, nappies back to normal etc

Putting LO to sleep tonight, patting his bum, suddenly stomach cramps, actually had to run out his room to the toilet.

I had listen to the LO cry himself to sleep, I feel awful! Never wanted to leave him to CIO, didn't have any choice. It was only about 3/4 minutes.

I feel awful, (kinda) hoping he'll wake so I can give him a big hug. I know I'll be giving him lots of love when he wakes, poor wee thing :(

Get a grip, woman! Shit happens. He won't remember.

Crikeyblimey · 12/12/2013 19:46

Don't beat yourself up. He won't remember and he's asleep now.

Sneak a look at him, blow him a kiss and go make yourself a cup of tea.

You will both be absolutely fine - and he might just learn to fall asleep alone!

No harm done at all.

Yes, exactly...shit did happen! lol

I know I'm being a bit silly, just wanted to get it off my chest

He will be fine. Don't worry.

Well done, he can now self-settle! 3-4 minutes is nothing. If I was you I'd not do the whole patting his bum thing tomorrow & see what happens.....

Lollypop1983 · 12/12/2013 19:55

Thanks, I know I'd feel much worse if it was longer.

At least he wasn't a newborn screaming his lungs out.

In a way, I think I'm being silly, but I know I'd hate to cry myself to sleep.

Anyway, hopefully, that's him for the night.

If you leave him to "fuss" for 3-4mins he'll go to sleep on his own every night! By the time you get to number five you plonk them down with a quick kiss to go and sort something out shouting promises of "I'll be back in a minute baby", "won't be long" by the time you've sorted naughty twin boys in the bath or whatever crisis a big sister invented baby has given up waiting and gone to sleep.
Lucky you some people never realise this. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Lollypop1983 · 12/12/2013 19:57

Might be worth a try. Have been building up to self settling, a month ago he was being fed to sleep, might be an ideal time to try it Grin

3-4 minutes is self settling! That does not count as crying to sleep - he is just making a noise while falling asleep

waterrat · 12/12/2013 20:01

Please don't say you seriously think this is bad parenting?
