Could a baby swallow an AA battery?

Hi girls

So the situation is, my ds (17 months) was playing with the remote control and the back came off. He was putting one battery back in (other still out) - I KNOW, I KNOW, before anyone says I shouldn't have let him Anyway, about 10 mins later I looked (I was in the room with him the whole time) and there was only one battery and I can't find the other. I also have a 3yr old dd so she could have moved it). Can you please reassure me that he couldn't have swallowed it without me noticing....(it was the size that used to go in a walkman) Don't know whether to feel paranoid, guilty or embarrassed for asking....ok, I'll go for all three I'm sure he hasn't but they do do things you don't expect sometimes.

if it is the size i am thinking then probably no, but if you think he may have swallowed it then I would go to A and E as batteries do contain acid and could potentially be dangerous if swallowed.

It is about 5cms long and 1.3cm diameter

i think if you were in the room with him you would probably have heard him,as i should think hed have been making gagging noises or coughing if he was swallowing it.

I think your right girls, I'm sure he couldn't have, motherhood definitely brings out the paranoid in me!

have you looked in his toy box or under the settee?he might have hidden it in something.my dd puts things in the lift up seat of her ride on car!!forever finding bits of dried up food and keys and things!

danceswithmonkeys - better to take him to get checked and he be fine, then to not get him checked and wish you had!! babies of that age are always up to some kind of monkey business, im sure A&E have seen things like this a million times! Please get him checked though just to be sure!

I constantly have these worries, but decide that since I have difficulty swallowing a paracetomol capsule, I couldn't swallow a AAA battery let alone a bigger one! If I can't, then I doubt DD can. I am very paranoid normally, but wouldn't be too stressed about this one as I think it most unlikely he could do it, esp without you noticing.
