Working mums with kids in pre-school - what do you do about childcare in holiday time?

Pretty much what the title said! I live in the countryside and my dd is currently in nursery 9 miles away. We're planning #2, so I'm considering moving DD to the pre-school two minutes walk from our house.

BUT, it has no holiday cover, and I work from home. What do other mums with little ones in pre-school do about holiday cover?

It's hard with little ones because there aren't holiday clubs for them. IME, preschool is mainly used by SAHPs who can cover holidays or people with extended families close by to cover for them. If that's not possible in your situation then I'd stick with your nursery as that is much easier (it's what I did). They all follow EYFS now so there shouldn't be much difference in the type of care and educational stuff your child is doing in either setting.

Your other option is if you can find a local childminder who looks after teacher's children in termtime so may have a holiday space available.

Sad I suspected that might be the case - I've been asking around parents whose kids are at pre-school and just got shrugs. Thanks for the response though Smile
