It is my DS 2nd bday on the 23rd.

Last year we just had an open house between 2 and 4 for family. We're doing the same this year but on the 22nd which is the Sunday.

We just try really hard to do non-xmas food (no mince pies etc).

Oh, and using some twigs we made a birthday tree with ornaments relevent to his year and which we will add to each year. This year we are adding a monkey (we went to a monkey sanctuary that he loved) a big brother plaque (dd arrived on August) and a trike (his favourite toy ever! )
I suspect this will become the family xmas present exchange too (seemed to be a drop off point last year Xmas Grin

Om his actual birthday we plan to go to an aquarium to ooh and aah over the fishes Xmas Grin

Well as its their first, just a little family thing is fine. They won't remember plus a big party is too over whelming. Maybe get family over for a post Xmas mini party for your little one.

I think first birthday celebrations are more for the adults than the baby. Just have a small celebration with the family.

Your baby won't know it's her birthday, all she cares about is having some paper to scrunch and some time with you and her dad. Invite family to tea if they live near by and relax.

Have some cake, go for a walk if the weather's nice and don't stress about it, make sure you take a photo of her with the candle on her cake and job's a good un. It's better to save your money to do something later in the year when the weather is better.

We moved house on DD2's 1st birthday (and her second birthday as well Blush ) and she can't remember any of it.
