How old was your lo when you first stayed (together) away from home? Am thinking about family for Christmas and just wondering what's 'normal', keen not to disrupt ds

DD is nearly 6 weeks and we've just come back from a weekend away staying with family.

How old are DCs?

MarjorieAntrobus · 02/12/2013 06:34

DC1 was 6 weeks old (stayed with ILs in their house)
DC2 was 3 weeks old (went camping, fgs)
DC3 was 4 weeks old (self-catering cottage)

There'll be a huge range of answers, OP. How old is/are your DC now?

Ds 4 months.
Dd 8 weeks.

I've found as long as your about they settle ok.

We had one night in a hotel at 11 months and just back from 5 days at pils.

googietheegg · 02/12/2013 07:11

She's 19 months now btw.

Ds is 6 weeks now, so will be around 10 weeks at the time. I thought it was fine, but then got to thinking overnight that it might just be totally unnecessary and disruptive to him - just had the in laws staying, and if it's anything like that we'll ping between overstimulated and overtired the whole time. Not fun for him or us

It's totally up to you, if you are feeling stressed and worried about it then it probably is best to avoid the situation unless it is essential.

I genuinely can't remember (DS is 12 now Grin) but I was lucky in that he was very 'easy' and slept anywhere so probably around 4 weeks.

AnythingNotEverything · 02/12/2013 09:36

The first time will be hard whatever the age - I'd go for it. It's easier when they're not mobile.

7 weeks, went to see my parents who live in another country, stayed with them and also some friends. Baby was absolutely fine.

MummyLuce · 02/12/2013 16:34

9 days old when we stayed at my mums up north. 6 weeks old when we went abroad. You can't stay at home forever! It's good idea for LO to become adaptable so you can can go and do fun stuff together wherever and all have a nice time.

mustardtomango · 02/12/2013 17:00

There's no chance of us staying at home forever Smile I was more asking just to get a feel for what other people did

Probably around 8 weeks, went to the Orkney Islands on holiday.

With DC2 it must have been about 8 weeks too, went to a conference with her.
