Frustrated 13 month old- trainer shoes

Hey all, I have a 13 month old who is driving me crackers because she wants to walk but refuses to put her heal to the floor so she hasn't learnt to balance standing up let alone walk. Will trainer shoes encourage her to put her whole foot to the floor .??? I don't want to waste money on them if this has been a tried an failed method x

No. Children walk first with bare feet and shoes make no difference. She is just not quite ready. At 13 months lots of children are not walking but she will get the hang of it. I still think the old recommendation that you buy a pair of soft shoes when they take their first steps is still the best advice as they need to strengthen their feet by not having them restricted by shoes. Frustration will turn to joy!

I would think no shoes or socks would be the best way to start. Ds has been walking for a month but he still stumbles lots in shoes. He was running around IKEA with bare feet yesterday, I'm sure people thought we were neglecting him but I'd prefer he got grubby feet than a banged head from falling over.

Another vote for bare feet :-)
