He has always been drawn to scooters (in the park trying to play with other kids) but also been thinking about a balance bike. Not sure if he's too young for either. Anyone got any advice? Ta x

We got a balance bike for DS for his second birthday, but it was a couple of months after that before he could really manage it. He got a scooter for his third birthday and took to it v quickly because he had the balance from using his bike.

I do know kids of 2 who can manage a scooter though, but some would just not be tall enough.

DS still uses both all the time.

A scooter is easier to carry when they get fed up half way through the walk...

We got DD a balance bike at two, but it was very heavy for her. It was a puky one. Take a look at the micro scooter pack for toddlers with a saddle, and circular handle for ease of use. DD is four now and we use it every day on the school run, the balance bike is stuck in the shed. I would think a balance bike might be good for age three?

neither - they can't manage them and will just get really really annoyed. Leave it for a year.

of course he likes scooters, big kids have them!

My DS2 has been scootering (mini micro, we didn't bother with the adaptor kit for young children) since he got his scooter aged 20 months, and rode a balance bike (Islabike Rothan) well from 18 months. He is average sized and not especially physically advanced, we just practised a lot (and he had an elder brother to copy). He was fine on both almost as soon as we tried them, could scoot to the park and local shops, and on the nursery run etc within a couple of weeks, and pretty quickly could manage a mile or so on the balance bike. I don't think she's too young at all.

My son is about to be 2. he's got a scooter as a present. He already has a balance bike but he's too small to ride it yet so I think it'll stay in the garage until spring.

We'd like him to ride a bike as soon as possible because we are a cycling family but I think the scooter will be brilliant when we go for a walk to the shops etc.

both both both both (if he's big enough!)

we brought ds a step2 motorbike for his second birthday its a balance bike but with big chunky wheels he loves it and rides it everywhere.
