To switch or not

Hi all my baby is nearly 5 months and has been on cow and gate comfort since he was 4 weeks old because of colic. Am I safe to put him back on cow and gate 1st milk now or shall I stick with comfort until he goes onto follow on? X

mel haven't got any experience of comfort milk but you may be best posting this I the breast & bottle section. You may get someone with more experience there.

There's no need to swap to follow on milk, unless you really want to. It's just a scam to get around the marketing of formula rules and the nhs recommend first stage formula until 12 months

Why do you want to switch, is it due to cost?
If so then get a pack of C&G First and try it for one feed. Rest of feeds that day use Comfort. See if there are any adverse effects. If so, stay on Comfort. If not keep doing one feed First Milk for a week, keeping an eye on adverse reactions.
If all ok in second week do more feeds during the day with First Milk.

I agree with regard to Folow On, don't use it. Just use Comfort or First.

Is colic the only reason you started using Comfort?

Yeah I want to change back if I can due to cost. Yeah nothing else was working for colic so the doctor recommended comfort x

Gradual introduction. Then if colic issue returns you know he is not ready for it.

Remember to wind well.

After a week of doing one feed a day with First.

Mixing milks is not great but I think the difference between Comfort and First is the amount of lactose by doing something to the whey protein concentrate and removing the skimmed milk that is in First.
First is 7g lactose, Comfort is 2.7g (those are per 100ml) so quite a difference in lactose amount.

Once introduced slowly then make the change. If collic returns the go back to Comfort (have some handy so you don't have an upset baby for too long).

Any issues with weight gain/loss then consult GP/Health Visitor/Baby Clinic.

DD2 was really sicky as a baby. We thought she had colic, but on the advice of my boss we swapped her onto comfort milk. It turns out DD2 is lactose intolerant. As soon as we swapped her milk, the puking stopped.

Even now at 3, too much normal milk or cheese gives her a tummy ache and upset stomach, ice cream can make her sick so we really restrict that.

DD1 used to get lots of tummy aches so she has lactose free milk too, and a lot less tummy aches.
