Possibly stupid new mum to be question.

So as my little man will be arriving in the bleak mid winter, I have a question about my pram and taking the baby out.

Currently I have the Pilko Mammas and Papas Pramette, set up to lie flat. When folded this way the part the baby would go into is like a soft, white lining material different to the rest which is all dark grey and polka dotty. Firstly, as this was a charity shop buy, I'm not sure if it is correct. It looks functioning though!

My main question is how do I set up the pram to go out, do I put down a blanket layer or bed sheet type material, dressed DS and then a blanket before attaching the 'cover' that comes with the pram, or just pop him in dressed onto the lining. I hope this makes sense, I've googled trying to get an idea but am totally clueless and getting anxious over the silliest of questions!

I would add a small sheet folded to about the right size (maybe a brushed cotton one for extra snugglyness) so that the pram lining stays clean. Babies leak! then dressed ds, possibly wrapped in blanket/ another sheet if you are doing a (loose) swaddling thing. then more blankets for warmth. then zip up the cover.
then panic, unzip everything, check for overheating (back of neck or chest, you've googled that already, right?), realise all cosy, zip back up, repeat.

you'll be fine! Later when he is big and more mobile, you'll put him with an outside coat or thicker jumpers straight onto the lining, because he'll be in and out and sitting up. But for now, when he is tiny, think of it like a bed.

Depends - if you're not going into shops which are too hot, I'd use a snow suit. But if you are then use blankets plus coat, warm trousers, hat, mittens etc which you can loosen and remove.

Or use a sling!

Yes to the two above responses, depends on temperature and it's not a stupid question. I'd use a large muslin to cover the inside, or a sheet - on a cold day a wee blanket would be good. But as steamwisher mentioned, snowsuits are great for all of this at this time of year.

Does it not have straps? My pram did but I think others are more like small cots on wheels so they don't.

Don't put another sheet/blanket layer on especially if this would be loose, as I think that would be a suffocation risk.

I think I'd tuck him in with blankets when tiny so that he fitted in and didn't feel like he was rattling around in there! As he gets bigger and the weather warmer just do what feels right.

I have the same pram no it doesn't have straps when set for newborn, I wasn't going to put anything down myself

I had a winter baby too. One of the most useful bits of advice I got was to dress the baby in the same layers you are in, plus an extra layer. So if you're wearing tshirt, jumper, trousers, coat, put baby in short sleeved body suit, trousers, jumper/cardigan, padded all in one suit plus a blanket of some sort.

Some really good advice here. I like the idea of the muslin cloth! its thin enough to not make a difference but is removable following inevitable spillages/leaks!

I'm very excited but also keep thinking about things like this and going into 'I know nothing' panic mode! x

Instead of a snowsuit consider getting one of these. So much easier than struggling to get them in the snowsuit

I tucked a muslin around the mattress under DS's head in his pram (mamas and papas zoom carrycot, so no straps) because he was a sicky baby - it was secure and I was always watching out for it coming undone. You could definitely use one for leaks too but berstie is right to flag up risk. Such an exciting time! I remember it well, enjoy it, even the panic (DS is five months now and it feels like five weeks)

I had this pram last year, put something under the baby to catch vomit, drool, exploding nappies as its hard to clean the actual pram fabric. the apron thingy goes over in pram mode too and ours is a different colour too

I found a pillow case fitted perfectly over the pram mattress, then I folded a muslin cloth to go under baby's head & tucked if round & under mattress also.

Yy to the wrapping blanket that jilted linked. We borrowed one from a friend and it was one of the best baby items we had. Going to buy one for impending baby no. 2 As an aside, try not to worry, it all feels overwhelming at this point but you will work it all out!

We had one of them. No it doesn't have straps when in the pram mode for some reason. I used to put those disposable pads under ds to catch leaks, vomit and poo explosions because it is incredibly difficult to clean properly. The cover that goes over them, I think it fastens on, is really warm. Ds had a coat and that, and he was too warm (he was born in the April though).

It's a good buggy, but in the end we only used it for 6 months because it was so heavy and when used as a pushchair it was too narrow for ds he was all squashed up inside it.

When I had this pram I used it with a moses basket mattress and sheet to make it a bit more comfortable and catch up any sick.

Like mumofboyo I found it far too narrow in pushchair mode so got a new one then.
