I remember when DS was 2 days old (still in hospital for me) ... lying in his plastic fish bowl all spread-eagled and fast asleep

along comes midwife "I'll show you how to swaddle"

"no thanks, he's fine"

"don't be silly dear" .. patronisingly .. "here" .. and of she goes swaddling him

DS let out the biggest yell in the world ... and kept screeching and screeching till she unravelled him and put him down .. when he flung his arms out and fell asleep again

never tried again .. slept like an angel

I really think swaddling doesn't work for ALL babies .. DD hated it too

It worked well for DS, although I thought it didn't until I got the hang of doing it properly

theres a thread here new idea on soemthing for swaddaling or can be used to swaddle - I think i'll be getting one for Joey as his latest trick is to bring his arms up kick his legs about so the blankets off and then flap about wacking himself in the head until he's awake. can't hurt to try it I guess? and if it means we all have more sleep what's the harm.

Swaddling depends on the child - Both of mine loved it (with one arm out), some hate it.

I remember my mum teaching me to swaddle when I was a child and playing with dolls - then when I had my own child, I seemed to do it instinctively, and it was only after my mum saw me do it that she remembered showing me when I was little!
