Upset over car seat incident

So I went out today with my 2 DDs we went to the local supermarket then to feed the ducks after the ducks I was strapping 3 year old DD in her seat when it moved a bit, it is a brittax safe fix isofix seat. When I checked neither isofix points were secured in. I have no idea why or for how long the seat wasn't fixed in. We only have one car so don't transport it between cars other than very rarely into the pils car. My only explanation is that she has pushed the button in to release the isofix???? I feel sick at the thought

Argh, where's the punctuation? Do you talk like that? And this happened and this happened and they said that and I did this and then I went to bed and I got up and I went to work and didn't use any punctuation or anything and I had some green squiggly underlines in Word telling me something was matter but I didn't know what it was and then

op... we all do it! i one reached my destination and realised I'd forgotten to strap ds's infant carrier in! scary, but at least nothing happened.

OP, I can understand how that would make you feel sick - luckily nothing did happen and I bet you'll check now (and you've prompted me to check as well - thanks!) Scary that an Isofix can come undone like that, though.

I've forgotten DS's straps in his pushchair once or twice. He now reminds me each and every time I pop him in by announcing 'Silly Mummy forgot my straps'. I swear, it was months ago...

I think that if you noticed the seat move when you put your DD in, then that was probably the first time it was disconnected.

It's a horrible feeling when you think 'what if?' but unfortunately parenthood is riddled with these.

If it makes you feel better, we drove a long way on the motorway before realising we hadn't strapped DD1 in her seat .

Have you looked to see where/how your DD could have disconnected the seat from the isofix points? Is she old enough to be told why that is the wrong thing to do? Could it have been a one off error after using it in the PIL's car?

We once went on a long journey (North Wales to Devon) with our three DC. They were 7, 5 and 6 months. Oldest has ASD and is a handful, youngest obviously to young to look after herself. Middle one a little cheeky but a real happy/ easy going/ get on with everything/ independent sort. About an hour and a half into the journey he suddenly piped up 'some of us aren't wearing our seat belts'. We pulled over and I opened the back door thinking the eldest had been fiddling with his. I was shocked that it was middle DS. He's been doing his own without fail since he was three. Apparently he didn't feel like wearing it as it was a long journey!

Roll on two and a half years and I still check every single time. I still feel cold at the thought of what could have happened.

I took my daughter to nursery and came home again with newborn dd2 in her little infant seat. It was only when I took the seat out to carry back into the house that I realised she hadn't been strapped in at all and was just loose in the seat. I felt absolutely sick.

It happens, don't worry about it. It's all sorted now :)

I apologise for not punctuating my first sentence. As my title says I am upset!

The isofix is released by pressing two buttons on either side of the seat. The buttons are near the base so I presumed she couldn't reach.

The pils haven't taken her out in ages so I am hoping that it hasn't been since then.

I sometimes put her in the car on the other door side to her seat, whilst I strap my younger DD in. I guess she could have pressed the buttons while climbing into her seat.

I'm hoping that like jimmy said as I noticed the seat move it just happened.

I was going to comment, but decided against as my grammar is shite. My mother, god rest her sole was always mortified by my lack of full stops etc, ESP as she was an English teacher! I do like though :). Op, you are not the first and certainly will not be the last, it happens to the best of us, take heart in the fact that you noticed and have remixed the seat correctly.

It's fine, honestly. Any car without isofix will have seats that are not secured in.

My DM didn't believe car seats were important when my DDs were little. She thought I was being silly and neurotic to insist that they were strapped in.

One day she looked after 6 week old DD for an hour and then we were meeting them somewhere else. We got there before them, and when they turned up DD was in her car seat, not strapped in, and the car seat was on my DM's lap on the back seat. :(

I did, but she thought it was fine. I didn't let her take my kids in the car after that unless I strapped them in myself.

This is why I double secure the car seat. We use the belt at the bottom plus the car seatbelt. If DD manages to do a houdini act and release one the other is in place to keep her safe.

Does she really think car safety stuff is just made up nonsense?

There are teams of people in each car company solely working to improve passenger safety.

The crash test outcomes of babies not in baby seats are horrific.

When we were in Denmark this summer we rented a car and childlock didn't work. DD managed to open the door. I had locked the doors before driving off and I was when she did it. She had turned two the day before and got the rollocking of her life. To this day she hasn't touched the car door.

Steamwisher and Milktraylady, yes it was crap. My DM loves my DDs very much, but is very stubborn and will not be convinced that she could be wrong about anything. One of the problems was that she could not remember how to strap them in even though I showed her many times.

My DDs are now teenagers and wear their seat belts. They have to remind my DM to put hers on!
