carpet to wooden floor with a baby: sensible or trouble?

hi I am desperate to rip up our stinky living room carpet (thanks toddler and cats) and put down a wooden floor.

However I have a newborn who will eventually be learning to walk on said floor - is wood a bad idea or will he learn to adapt to it? cant remember ds1 falling onto the carpet too much when he learned to get around.

have any other babies been bought up with a wooden floor and if so would you recommend?

have rug doctored and steam cleaned the carpet but it still remains stinky and stained Angry

thanks in advance! xx Grin

Wood floors are great.just make sure there are no gaps between the boards

We only have laminate downstairs. 7 month old dd has been ok so far, we sit her on the rug!

Toddler will then need to toilet train. Wooden floors are fantastic!

Yes wooden floors get my vote , then why not get a nice big rugWink

Another vote for wooden floors, and either a rug or some of those rubber floor mats with letters on for when the little one is learning to sit & walk. DH would have covered our entire house in them (neurotic about head injuries)!

Wood is fine with smallies. Our never really slipped, but they did puke on it regularly when they were tiny. I dread to think what carpet would have looked like!

We had a wooden floor with a large rug in the living room but I ended up throwing out the rug as no sooner did I wash it then it got something spilled on it. I just vacuum and steam mop the floor a lot now and it is great.

We swapped to wooden floor when DC2 was about 9 months. There were no problems with learning to crawl/walk on a wooden floor instead of carpet. DCs 3&4 have been fine too. It's much easier to clean especially during weaning.

They can be cold though so we've got a big rug in the middle of the floor which DC4 sleeps on at nap time.

we only have carpet in the bedrooms, so glad! with the food flying around and the play doe or paint that would be stamped into a carpet if we had one I am very glad we don't! its so much easier. I don't think it makes a difference with walking either (:

brilliant you've definitely helped make up my mind. Bring on the nice cleanable hygeinic wooden flooring! thank you all xx
