no poo for 3 days

C is an 11 week old breastfed baby who has always done loads of huge poos. We've been trying to give him a bit of formula but he's only taken a few swallows a day. Could this tiny amount of formula be why he hasn't pooed for 3 days? He doesn't seem uncomfortable at all with it. weird

Possible I imagine, as I know formula can cause constipation, esp if he's so young and hasn't had it before. Also I've read though that babies can poo once a week, once a day, 10 times a day and all these are normal. Hopefully you'll get a MASSIVE one tomorrow! If you're really worried and he seems to be developing pain though, it's probably worth phoning the GP.

At about 3 monts old DS1 (who was exclusively breastfed) suddenly stopped doing several huge poos a day and started doing one MASSIVE (up the back, down the legs sorts) poo a week (thankfully it was always at about 5pm on a Friday night - just when DH got in from work )

Excellent timing HRH! We're also lucky on that score, DS (now 2.1) almost always does a big one once a day just after waking up, and DH always goes in with the morning milk. So I rarely do a pooy nappy anymore. Hurrah!

When I swapped ds2 from breats to formula he bacame terribly constipated. My health visitor told me to give him a 2.5ml medicine spoon of orange juice in morning and evening for one day. It worked a treat and hes was never constipated after that and thrived to be a happy 10 year old

Thank you ladies - he did indeed do a huge up the back one last night and again this afternoon. It reeks nowadays too. Might ditch the formula as he hates it anyway and hopefully he'll get his fragrant aroma back again!

Just to add, DS used to go about every 10 days at that age. I wish he did now, as his reek to high heaven. If you think formula milk poo is bad, just wait til you start weaning........

and don't even start on the stink of teething poos. Uuuurrrrgggghhhh...
