is white noise damaging?

It's the only thing that will get 10 week old to nap in the day - at night he'll self settle which is great. But it worries me that the white noise could ne damaging - its a hairdryer noise app and only works in getting dc to sleep if it's on quite loud.

Is it okay? It won't hurt his ears will it?

God no, we used it until DC was 10 mo. It's absolutely fine Smile

Still use it here on 10 month old, but not as loudly as when he was younger. Wouldn't use a phone too close to baby's head though, I have a Ewan sheep that plays it. Very effective

Another one here! DS is 10m and still has it fir naps and night!! Sleeps way better with it than without!!

Mehrida · 01/11/2013 22:42

Well if it does then DS, DH and I are all done for!

If it works, go for it. Lack of sleep far more damaging all round.

WinterOfOurDiscontent · 01/11/2013 22:55

It works for the morning nap - the first nap after waking - but after that he fights sleep until bedtime. Still at least it gets him to nap for a couple hours in the day and takes the edge off some of the days screaming!

10 weeks is still so tiny. Just go with what works.

At that age DS was screaming 16/17 hours a day easy. He had allsorts of tummy troubles - reflux, wind etc and was an awful screamer right up until 20w+ when we got the right combo of meds and he started to get that bit stronger.

Honestly, just go with what works for now :-)

Plenty of adults use white noise too... I'm not a doctor but doubt it's harmful.
