Hi

I need to put a stair gate across the top of the stairs but we have a rounded newl post there so usual pressure gates won't fit. Anyone got any ideas, don't want to spend too much. Thanks

Oh dear... The only thing i can suggest is the screw fixing ones... But of course that may ruin the post... Sorry i can't be any more help than that.

You shouldn't put pressure gates at the top of the stairs as a child could lean on it and push it over but we got around this problem at the bottom of our stairs by using a Lindam dog gate which is a lot higher and went against the flat part of the stair post at the top.

We never found a solution for the top of the stairs, we have a scre fixed stair gate but it had to go so high up that ds can crawl underneath it.

What we had to do was fix a baton of wood to the post and then screw the gate to that.

Could you attach it to the wall just beyond the post? If you got a kiddiguard one, it would then wrap around the post, so you wouldn't have a problem with that aspect of it.

you should use the safety screws provided on pressure gates at the top of stairs anyway.,

Or how about using large hose clamps to fix a batton to the post and screwing it to that.

We use a Lindam pressure gate on ours but it has pushed the newel out of sync with the rest of the staircase. It is rigid however and we've just put up with it for safety's sake. Our newwl is rounded too but we just turn the knob until the pressure tightens it against the post.

we live in a Victorian house and got them spiral wooden staircase...i thought it be a nightmare but weve found NO problems putting the pressure gates on it...
