Just occurred to me... what if DD doesn't walk before the next one arrives?!

All being well, DC2 will arrive in February. DD will be 15mo by then. When I became pregnant, I took it for granted she would be walking by then, as she started crawling at 7 months. However, she's pretty satisfied with crawling and can go at great speed now at 12 months. She is only just cruising a little now and certainly can't stand without holding on.

This evening DH teased me by saying DD will probably take her first steps when I'm in hospital having the next baby. I've suddenly realised she might not be walking by then!

What will my life be like with a tiny baby and a bigger one that still needs carried and held a lot of the time?!

I'm afraid even if your dd can walk by. 15 months, she'll still need to be carried and held alot at that age- so no different!

I agree with beemybaby I'm afraid (have a 17m old who wants carried all the BLOODY time even tho he's been walking since 11m)

I agree with the posts so far, it really won't make any difference whether she walks or not!

Look on the bright side, at least she won't be able to run away from you while you're doing something vital with the newborn

Oh, and agree with pp, my dd still requires cuddling, lifting & carrying, she's 21 months and has been walking unaided since mid-March...

theres 11.5 months between my ds2 and dd. He wasnt walking properly, and I certainly spent the last couple of months of pregnancy not being able to lift him anyway. Im sorry to say we made extensive use of the playpen in that time and it was a blessed relief when she arrived and I could actually pick him up again.

Well - firstly there is a huge leap between 12 an 15 months in terms of mobility - my ds could not walk At 12 months but was walking steadily by 15.

Also - it thn moves forward so quickly - now he is 18 months he can run ! It makes such a difference as we can go to the playground and he can play very independently and run about kicking leaves picking up stick etc

I do agree that 15 months will still need lots of attention and cuddles / picking up but people are being a big gloomy here ! Within at lest a few months of the new baby you will have a much more independent toddler

There's 17 months between mine. Ds started walking on his own at 14 months and after that he loved walking but did still like being picked up and carried. He was also not very good at walking longer distances; that's something that's come with time as he's now 30 months and doesn't need the buggy at all. At first I had a double buggy for going out and about: great for keeping him contained as I was feeding or changing dd when out and the massive basket underneath was fab for carting about all the crap stuff that comes with a baby and a toddler.

Theres 14 months between mine and my dd1 wasnt walking by the time dd2 arrived. Really didnt cause me any problems other than when carrying them down the stairs! Was just a case of one under each arm Dd1 walked when dd2 was about 2 weeks old so not to bad.

My DS didn't walk until 17months, and he's still carried A LOT at 20 months. He is extremely lazy though!

14 month gap between mine and she wasn't walking independently when the baby arrived. Worked out really well - I had chronic spd when pregnant and poor dd had to crawl everywhere for me or I would put in the pushchair to take her to the car etc. but it meant dh did everything for her when she was home meant she didn't bat an eyelid when the newborn turned up as she wasn't used to be carried etc.
